The rules of various blackjack variants have the same objective, i.e. to have a total card number of 21. The main difference between them is the number of cards and a minor change in the rules. But having a total higher than the dealer and not exceeding 21 is the bottom line of playing the game. You can easily learn the best way to play blackjack online for free and can become the master of this game.

Let’s see the different types of blackjack and how they differ from one another.

Blackjack Switch

Blackjack switch is a multi-hand version of the game, and a player gets two hands to play separately. This means that at the beginning of each round, a player must put two (equal) stakes. Two cards are dealt to each hand in the usual way. What makes this variant unique is that the player has an option to switch the second card dealt in each hand. This helps them to build a stronger starting hand, thus, giving them a major benefit. The overall chance of winning this variant is better than other types, so it is worth trying.

Spanish 21

Spanish 21 is a prominent variant of blackjack that sometimes offers better chances of winning than the regular game of blackjack. The Spanish version is played with either six or eight decks of cards. This variant removes all the 10-value cards from every deck which makes each deck of 48 cards. The dealer can see their hole cards, plus surrender and late insurance are also allowed. To give a better chance to win to the player, players have an option to surrender after doubling and can also even double after splitting.

Atlantic City

Atlantic city blackjack is another popular variation offered in single and multi-hand game options by many casinos. Although both the variants have similar rules, multi-hand options need more money spending. The house edge is always low in this version. Players have an option to double after taking a split, and also they can double on any of their first two cards. In Atlantic City, the dealer must stand on a hand of soft 17.

Double Exposure Blackjack

This variant is one of the favourites among the blackjack players as it is one of the few variants that increase the player’s chances of winning. In Double Exposure blackjack, both the dealer’s cards are exposed. Although this is a huge advantage for the player, but to balance the game, there are many additional rules which favour the dealer. Also, if there are any ties the dealer wins, except in the case when the dealer and the player both have a natural blackjack. Players are allowed to split their hands only once. Other rules might vary depending upon the casino, including whether the dealer must hit or stand on soft 17. As both the dealer cards are faced-up, there is no chance to place insurance.

Double Attack Blackjack

Double Attack blackjack is somewhat similar to Spanish 21. This is because 10’s are removed from the deck. The difference between this variant and other standard games is that the player has an opportunity to double their original bet after seeing the dealers upcard. In this variation, the dealer stands on soft-17. There are favourable rules for players like they have the ability to resplit up to three or four hands, double after a split, but they cannot resplit aces. It is definitely a unique variation, and a must-try if you play blackjack for fun.

Progressive Blackjack

This variant is also similar to the classic blackjack, but with only difference that the player has an option for an additional bet. This bet then pays off when the player gets an ace as their first card. If both aces are a player’s first two cards, they will even earn a larger payout, and if those two aces are suited, the payout still will be bigger. And if the player gets four aces of the same suit in a row, they would win a progressive jackpot.

European Blackjack

European blackjack is quite similar to the traditional game, but with minor differences in the rule. This version is played with two decks of cards. Two cards are dealt face-up to the player, with one card facing up to the dealer. In this variant, the dealer does not get a hole card until the player makes their decision. From there, the cards can be split, stand, hit, or doubled. Doubling in European blackjack only allows for values of 9, 10 and 11 and players can double after split, but further resplit is not allowed.

American Blackjack

American blackjack also known as classic blackjack, is the most played variation across the globe. This variation can be played with up to 8 decks, and two cards are dealt to the player and the dealer, where one of the cards is face-down for the dealer. If the player has 21 in their hand, they win, and if their total card exceeds 21 they get busted and lose the bet. Also, to win your total should be higher than that of the dealer. During the game, players have an option to double down even after splitting. While players can split up to three times, but with aces, they can split only once.
